Granny’s Visitor Book

‘Granny’ was a sea-anemone that lived in a jar in the Head Curator’s Office at RBGE between 1879 and her death in 1887. She was such an attraction that a Visitor’s Book was established to record those who came to see her. RBGE Garden Guide Rachel Thomas transcribed the names in the book in 2023 – the resulting list forms an incredible insight into our Garden visitors and includes many notable figures amongst those that aren’t normally seen in our records, including women and schoolchildren.
